~~REMINDER: Only three weeks worth of pills contain hormones, but many women have a fouth week of pills that only serve to keep the woman in the habit of taking them. It doesn't matter if you don't take these reminder pills-- just go on as usual.~~

What to do if...

You forgot 1 pill: Take the forgotten pill as soon as you remember. Continue taking the rest of the pills as usual. Yes, this means you might be taking two pills in one day.

You forgot 2 pills (in a row and in the first two weeks of a pack): Take two pills the day you remember. (This is one that you forgot and one that is regular for the day.) The next day, take two pills again. Then, go one taking one a day as usual. Use another form of birth control for seven days after the pills you missed.

You forgot 2 pills (in a row and in the THIRD week) *OR* 3 or more during any of the first three weeks: Take one pill every day until the next Sunday. Throw away the rest of the pack and start a new pack. Use another form of birth control for seven days after the pills are skipped. You may not have your period this month, but this is expected. Call your clinician if you do not get your period two months in a row. If you don't usually start a new pack on Sunday, then you can throw the pack away immediately and follow the rest of the steps.
